Grammar is a branch of education by which we learn how to read write and speak correctly.

Or

Grammar teaches us how to read write and speak correctly.


Parts of Grammar

There are five parts of grammar in English.

(i) Orthography 

(ii) Etymology 

(iii) Syntax

(iv) Punctuation 

(v) Prosody


1. Orthography

In Orthography we study about letters ( Alphabets ).

2. Etymology

In Etymology we study about history and origin of a word.

e. g. :- History and Origin of the word Grammar

The word Grammar comes from a Greek word "Gramma" / "Grammat " means "alphabet" and Grammatike techne means "art of letters" via Latin and later in French as "Gramaire". 

3. Syntax / Concord

Syntax is also known as Concord in which we study about formation of a sentence.

e. g. :-

He and I __are__ friend.  ( is / am / are )

I as well as you __am__ wrong. ( is / am / are )

4. Punctuation

In Punctuation we study to devide a sentence by points.

Full stop —   .

Note of interrogation —  ?

Comma —    ,

Semicolon — ;

Colon —  :

Dash  —  

ect

5. Prosody

In Prosody we study about the rules of English in Science and Poetry.

e. g. :- Thou, unto etc
